5th Century – Pale green glass tear bottle from Syria used as a small receptacle for toilet preparations (kohl, scent, oil). Tear bottles or ‘lachrymatories’ were mistakenly thought to have been used to hold tears of mourners as they were often found in ancient tombs. 8.5 cm high.
