Silk Kimono

Kimono, c. 1910, silk, 63 inches long, Fred Stone, 1982.11.1.

Black silk kimono with floral, leaf, and geometric patterns in gray, purple, and light green, detailed with gold and silver embroidery. The front panels and sleeves are lined in red silk, and the inside lining is white silk. This kimono belonged to Mrs. Arthur Bassett of San Francisco who lived with her husband, an American tobacco company executive, in Shanghai c. 1905 – 1925.
