The obverse (pictured) of this coin depicts a cup with a decorated rim and the words “year 2” above “Half Shekel” in Paleo-Hebrew script; the reverse features a stem with three pomegranates and “Jerusalem is Holy” in Paleo-Hebrew script. This coin was minted in Jerusalem during the first rebellion against Rome, prior to the city’s destruction in 70 C.E.
