Since the founding of the museum in 1961, gifts and purchases of various objects have added significantly to the collections. In particular, the museum houses strong collections of objects in the following areas: natural history prints, maps, ancient Roman artifacts, American and European decorative arts, travel photography, Native American material culture, local history, and WWI and WWII military material.

A small percentage of these objects are on display in the museum’s permanent exhibitions, and are available online, but the majority are held in collections storage. The Arts & Culture collections are often pulled for university teaching in the museum’s Object Study Room, but you must Request a Class Visit. Appointments may also be made to use these collections for research.
