Victorian Holiday Postcard

Victorian Holiday Postcard

This holiday postcard was designed by Ernest Nister, iconic nineteenth-century London publisher of children’s books and paper ephemera. It traveled across the globe to Knoxville, after being printed in Nuremberg, Bavaria, and distributed by Nister’s American Publisher, E.P. Dutton & Co. of New York. Featuring a Dickensian Scrooge and Turkey, from the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, the card was given to Judge John Webb and Ellen McClung Greene, with handwriting on the back: “With best Christmas Wishes, from Mr. & Mrs. J.H. Worley.”

1957.3.208, Bequest of Judge John Webb and Ellen McClung Green.
