Santa Milk Pitcher

Santa Milk Pitcher, c. 1910, Royal Bayreuth, Tettau, Germany, Porcelain, Gift of Nella C. Moss, 1936.4.625.

The museum’s pitcher collection features hundreds of “figurals”–pitchers made in the shape of animals and people. The German company Royal Bayreuth was celebrated for their figurals. Founded in the late 1700s, they became known for their novelty wares, which were hand-painted and treasured by collectors, such as this Santa pitcher.
