United Against Racism

As many of our supporters know, a white supremacist group has made plans to hold an event on UT’s campus on Saturday, February 17. As a precautionary measure for the safety of our visitors and the museum’s collections, we will be closed that day.

The group was not invited by anyone at the University of Tennessee, and they are not welcome. We stand united with the Chancellor and the UT community at large when we say racism is not welcome on our campus. It runs counter to the museum’s mission of fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the earth and its peoples.

UT has information online, including a website about free speech on UT’s campus, the latest news on the topic, and a Q&A about the event.
