Entrepreneur A.C. Gilbert introduced American children to Erector Sets in 1913 with the first ever national advertising campaign for a toy. Marketed heavily toward young boys, different kits provided materials for construction projects ranging from bridges and buildings to motorized trains and a Ferris wheel.
