The daughter of U.S. Senator William Blount, Barbara Blount (1792-1836) was one of the first five co-eds to attend Blount College, today known as the University of Tennessee. Knoxville artist Mary Etta Grainger, whose own great-grandmother was among these trailblazing women, honored Barbara and her cohort in a series of traditional portraits.
