Shakespeare Pitcher

Pitcher, Early 20th century, made by Royal Doulton, Earthenware, by bequest of Nella Moss, 1936.4.1003.  Depicting a scene from Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1 ( III.iii).

The front of the pitcher shows the imposing Sir John Falstaff pointing at Bardolph, saying “do thou amend thy face & I’ll amend my life”. This year marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
