“Celestial Body” Lithograph

“Celestial Body,” 1961, Herbert Bayer, color lithograph on paper, 16.5 inches high, Container Corporation of America, 1966.2.2.9.

A colored lithograph by Herbert Bayer (Austrian, 1900-1985), from the original oil and collage on canvas. A black and white textured moon is reflected in the surface of a small band of blue beneath, probably representing water. Bayer, the last living member of the Bauhaus school, was active in the United States and worked as an advertising artist, photographer, painter, sculptor, architect and landscape designer.
