Baggage Label

“Grand New Hotel” Label, 1900-1925, Richter & Company, chromolithograph, 2.5 inches high, Mrs. and Mrs. Louis Bailey Audigier, 1934.1.966.18.

A baggage label from the Grand New Hotel, today the New Imperial Hotel, located in front of the Citadel as one enters the old city of Jerusalem from its Northern Jaffa Gate. The Arabic name for the gate, Bab el-Khalil (Gate of the Friend), refers to Abraham, who is buried in the West Bank city of Hebron.
