1930s, Nashville, TN. This limestone sculpture was made by William Edmondson, the first African American artist to have a solo exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art. We have two more of his sculptures, “The Bride,” on display in The Decorative Arts, and “The Preacher,” which will soon be traveling to the Museum of Biblical Art in New York. Width = 24.8 cm.
