Johnson’s New York Map

Johnson’s New York, 1863, Johnson and Ward, hand-colored lithograph, 18 inches high, Jeffrey M. Leving, 2014.21.93.

A map of New York State as it was in 1863, part of Johnson’s New Illustrated Family Atlas. While New York was the only colony to not vote for independence, as the delegates were not authorized to do so, it did endorse the Declaration of Independence on July 9, 1776 and played an instrumental part in the American Revolutionary War.
