Permanent exhibit

Science, Grades P-12
Time required: 30-45 minutes

Devonian DioramaDisplayed are more than 190 actual fossils of plants and animals, including the only dinosaur bones ever found in Tennessee; authentic dinosaur eggs; life-size dioramas of Tennessee habitats of the past, with the associated fossils; the rock cycle; minerals and rocks of Tennessee. Students will use these to learn about organisms and their adaptations to environments; survival and extinction in ecosystems, and earth materials.

mosasaurThe “Earth Bulletin,” a biweekly updated look at tectonic and climatic events around the world, and “Continents on the Move,” plate tectonics over time, focus on changes in the Earth. The “Research Feature,” which explains current earth science research,, is especially useful in meeting embedded inquiry and engineering/technology expectations for middle and high school students.

Education programs are docent or staff led; hands-on activities may be included.
