2000 Years of Chinese Art: Han Dynasty to the Present

Temporary Exhibit
Available January 25-May 21, 2010

Social studies/art, Grades K-12
Time required: 30-45 minutes

Cinnabar QilinChina is a vast area inhabited by more than 56 ethnic groups, each with its own customs, traditions, language, foods, and in some cases, religious beliefs. In the past, these peoples had their own leaders, and often fought with each other for political dominance. China’s history is one of conflicts, migrations, and subjugation by a ruling people, who imposed its rules, laws, customs, and traditions. Each of these dynasties has left its imprint in Chinese art and design, reflecting their social, political and cultural characteristics.

2000 Years of Chinese Art showcases the arts and achievements of the ruling dynasties from the Han (206 BC- AD 220) to the Qing (1644-1911) as well as contemporary works. Topics in History, Economy, Geography, and Government are included in the program.
