McClung Museum images at the Hodges Library Digital Library Center
The Museum houses the photographs of archaeological work in Tennessee from 1934-1942 as well as a collection of 19th and early 20th century photographs of Egypt. These have both been digitized and are accessible as links from the Museum's webpage.
Use of these images is governed by the authorized uses of webpage images and text defined above. Publication quality images can be obtained from the Museum's photographic services.
Photographic Services
The McClung Museum has in-house photographic services capability. This service is provided to researchers using the collections as well as publishers and producers seeking images for publication.
These services are subject to the following guidelines:
- Requests for images must be made in writing clearly explaining the proposed
use. Fax and e-mail are acceptable.
- Approval for an individual to photograph objects in the Museum collections
must be obtained from the curator responsible for the
object(s). Subsequent use of study photographs is subject to the Museum's
photographic use policies.
- All permission to publish is given with the understanding that a copy of
the publication will be sent gratis to the Museum.
- At least five (5) working days from request approval must be allowed for
the generation of the requested images. Delivery time will depend upon
method chosen. Requesters should be aware that the Museum photographic
services are ancillary to the Museum program. Museum photography (eg.
Exhibits, publicity, conservation, in-house publications, etc.) takes
precedence over requests by collection users and others.
- Images must be credited: Courtesy Frank H. McClung Museum, The University
of Tennessee. You will be advised whether the name of the photographer
needs to be included.
- Unless otherwise requested, images will be provided on a CD as TIFF files
with a minimum of 300dpi. Other formats (negatives, prints from negatives,
transparencies, 35mm slides, etc.) are custom work that require
consultation with the Museum media coordinator.
- Unless sent electronically, shipping costs will be charged. Note that most
files are too large to send electronically and will require shipping a CD.
- If the image requested does not exist in the Museum archives, a digital image will be generated by the Museum photographer at a cost of $20 per image.
Image Use-Fees
The following fees are for one-time use of an image provided by the Museum. Use of images in advertising, promotions, merchandise, and other commercial applications is subject to higher use fees and will be quoted individually. The Museum reserves the right to change any or all of its fees at any time.
- Non-profit, scholarly use - $10/image plus shipping
- Other publication use - $100/image plus shipping
